Frequently Asked Questions
What to bring, how long transfers take, how to cancel, and how currency exchange works.
Sending Money
QWhat do I need to send money?
A valid government-issued photo ID (passport, driver's license, or state ID) and your recipient's details: their full name as it appears on their ID or bank account, their country, and — for a bank deposit — their bank name and account number or IBAN. For some transfers we may also ask about the purpose or the source of funds.
QHow long does a transfer take?
It depends on the destination country, how your recipient is paid, and our payout partner there. Before you pay, we tell you the estimated delivery date and time, and it is printed on your receipt.
QHow much does it cost?
The fee depends on the destination country, the amount, and how your recipient is paid. Our exchange rate includes our margin, so it can differ from the rates you see online. Before you pay, we show you the fee, the exchange rate, and exactly how much your recipient will receive — or message us on WhatsApp for a quote first.
QHow much can I send?
Limits depend on your verification level, your history with us, and the destination country. If you are planning a large transfer, contact us first and we will tell you what applies.
QCan I cancel a transfer?
Yes, as long as the money has not been picked up or deposited yet. Contact us as soon as possible. If we cancel it in time, you get the full transfer amount and fees back in US dollars.
QWhat if my recipient doesn't receive the money?
Contact us right away — and in any case within 180 days of the transfer. We will investigate and correct any error we confirm. If a cash pickup is not collected within 60 days, the transfer is cancelled and refunded to you.
QWhat does my recipient need to collect cash?
A valid government-issued photo ID and the reference number from your receipt. Share the reference number with them after you send.
QHow can I avoid scams?
Only send money to people you know and trust. Never send money to someone you have only met online or by phone, to claim a prize or lottery, to pay a "government official" or for a package, or because someone is pressuring you to act fast or keep it secret. If you think you have been scammed, call us right away — we may be able to stop the transfer before it is paid out — and report it at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
Supported Countries
QWhich countries can I send to?
We pay out in 90+ countries across the Middle East, North Africa, Africa, Asia, Europe, Canada, and the United States. The Receiving tab on our Locations page lists every country and how your recipient can be paid there.
QDo you support transfers to Syria?
Yes. We send to Syria through our partner network. Please contact us for the current delivery options for this corridor before you visit.
QCan I send to a bank account in Europe?
Yes. Euro payments go to bank accounts in SEPA countries. You'll need the recipient's full name and IBAN.
QAre any transfers restricted?
All transfers are screened against U.S. government sanctions lists, including the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) list. Transfers involving sanctioned people, organizations, or places are blocked, and some transfers may be held for review. The countries and payout options we offer can change.
Security & Verification
QIs Atlantic Xchange licensed?
Yes. Atlantic Xchange LLC is registered with FinCEN as a Money Services Business and licensed as a money transmitter in FL, GA, IL, MD, MI, NJ, NY, NC, TX and VA (NMLS ID 1544045). State regulator contacts are on our Licenses page, and you can verify every license on NMLS Consumer Access.
QWhy do you ask for my ID and other information?
Federal law requires money transmitters to verify every customer's identity and keep records of transfers. We may also ask about the purpose of a transfer or the source of funds, and every transfer is screened against government sanctions lists.
QCan I send money for my business?
Yes, but business payments are set up separately from personal transfers. Contact us first — we will need documents such as your EIN and business registration.
Currency Exchange
QWhat is the difference between Money Transfer and Currency Exchange?
Money Transfer sends funds from the USA to a recipient abroad — for cash pickup, bank deposit, or mobile wallet. Currency Exchange is a cash exchange at our branch: you bring US dollars and leave with foreign currency, or the other way around.
QDo I need an appointment to exchange currency?
Not for everyday amounts. For large amounts or less common currencies, call or message us first so we can have the currency ready for you.
QHow do I find out today's exchange rate?
Rates change daily, so we don't publish them online. Message us on WhatsApp or call with the currency and amount, and we will tell you today's rate.
